Rochester and Finger Lakes Tour Guide

STEP-ON, STEP-OFF

In addition to our private, small-group tours, we can provide an expert guide for tour coaches.  Your guests will enjoy hearing about the locations and history around Rochester and the Finger Lakes region as they visit local landmarks, wineries, breweries, or simply take in the spectacular scenery.  Your guide will join your coach at the pickup point at your hotel or other designated starting point.

Our standard step-on tours are described here.  If you have something different in mind, let us know and we’ll help you design your tour itinerary.  We can advise you which stops are open/available on any given day of the week, where to break for lunch, and other points of interest.

Rochester City Tours

Your guests will enjoy a fascinating tour of downtown Rochester, uncovering surprising facts about our city. We pass landmarks known for their history and architecture, telling the stories of famous Rochesterians and the iconic Erie Canal. We’ll pass the beautiful mansions that line East Avenue; stroll onto the Pont De Rennes bridge with its unobstructed views of the 96-foot High Falls, and visit an overlook for a panoramic view of the city.  We can also help organize a cruise on the Erie Canal on the Riverie or Sam Patch, or a visit inside the Susan B. Anthony House, George Eastman House, or the Strong National Museum of Play.   We can even design a tour around Rochester’s thriving craft beverage industry!

Historic Erie Canal Tours

We’ve teamed up with Corn Hill Navigation for two very special Erie Canal Brews & Boats Tour offerings! Choose from an Erie Canal Cruise on the Sam Patch and a visit to two canal town breweries, or a Genesee River & Erie Canal Cruise on the Riverie with a visit to two Rochester City breweries.  It’s the perfect way for your guests to experience this engineering marvel that transformed New York State and had a profound influence on our nation.  Your guide will join you at your hotel or other designated starting point.

Finger Lakes Tours

Just an hour south of Rochester lie the beautiful Finger Lakes, with stunning scenery, postcard-perfect towns and a deep connection to the land, the history, and the people who shaped it.  The region is celebrated for its world-class wines, specializing in aromatic whites like Riesling and Gewürztraminer, as well as cool-climate reds such as Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir.  Your guests can enjoy scenic tours with many photo opportunities, as well as visits to wineries and/or breweries.   Your guide can join the coach in Rochester, Penn Yan, Hammondsport, Geneva, Canandaigua, or Watkins Glen, depending on your group’s itinerary.

Letchworth State Park: The Grand Canyon of the East

Letchworth State Park won the USA TODAY Readers’ Choice Award for Best State Park in the United States in 2015 and Best Attraction in New York State in 2017.  In one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern United States, the Genesee River roars through a gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs as high as 600 feet in some places.  In addition to a spectacular ride and breathtaking overlooks, Letchworth includes the William Pryor Letchworth Museum, housing a collection relating to the Native American and pioneer history of the Genesee Valley as well as archeological and natural history displays, and a restored Seneca Tribe Council House.

Lockport’s Flight of Five (full day)

About an hour’s drive from Rochester is the charming village of Lockport, the only place in the country where you can see 19th Century locks located right alongside modern-day operating locks, both designed to lift boats up the Niagara Escarpment.  The excursion includes a walking tour of the village, a visit to the Erie Canal Discovery Center and a collection of Tiffany stained glass windows.  Your guests can experience 2-hour cruise on the Erie Canal, passing through the modern locks.  This full-day tour will also include a lunch stop.
