Letchworth State Park: Grand Canyon of the East

$120 per person

Letchworth State Park

THIS TOUR IS NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL MAY 1, 2024 DUE TO WEATHER AND SEASONAL CLOSURES

Just 35 miles south of Rochester lies one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern United States.  The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs–as high as 600 feet in some places–surrounded by lush forests.  Renowned as the “Grand Canyon of the East”, Letchworth State Park won the USA TODAY Readers’ Choice Award for Best State Park in the United States in 2015.

In addition to a spectacular ride and overlooks, Letchworth includes the Humphrey Nature Center, with many interactive exhibits that especially highlight the plants and animals, geology and river ecology of the park, the William Pryor Letchworth Museum, housing a collection relating to the Native American and pioneer history of the Genesee Valley as well as archeological and natural history displays, and a restored Seneca Council House.

Your experience begins before we reach the park, with your guide explaining the history of the area and commenting on the villages you pass through.  Passing theLetchworth State Park Rochester Tours Mount Morris Dam, you enter at the north end of the park and ride along the scenic drive that winds down to the south.  We’ll make as many stops as you like to admire the breathtaking scenery and take photos, and you’ll have plenty of time to visit the museum and council house.

During the regular season (May-October), you can lunch at the historic Glen Iris Inn, or grab a bite at the Lower Falls restaurant or one of the four snack bars within the park.  Out of season you’ll have a delicious lunch stop outside the park.  Or, you can choose to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the breathtaking scenery! RocTours can arrange a picnic lunch for an additional fee; contact us for options and pricing.

After leaving the park at the south end, we’ll head up to the village of Perry, on Silver Lake, stopping at East Hill Creamery – a family-owned dairy farm creating alpine-style cheeses using milk from their very own cows. On Fridays and Saturdays, you can also visit the Silver Lake Brewing Company and Three Falls Cidery to sample local craft beverages. On other days, if you’d like to sample, we’ll head up to one of the other microbreweries or wineries on the way back to Rochester.
