Historic Lockport and the Erie Canal

Visit historic Lockport and discover the Erie Canal, the 19th century engineering marvel that made New York City the booming commercial hub it is today. You’ll see the original nineteenth-century flight of five consecutive locks that allowed boats to navigate the 60-foot Niagara Escarpment.
Relax in our Cadillac Escalade SUV and let us do the driving. Departing from the Rochester area, we pass through small towns that owe their heritage and success to the Erie Canal, with thousands of lush acres of agriculture in between.
Discover Historic Lockport & the Erie Canal
On arriving in Lockport, we stop for lunch at the Lock 34 Grill, where you’re sure to find something delicious on the menu (not included). Then you can stroll alongside the canal and locks on Riley’s Way self-guided walking tour, which features 16 landmark signs that are located at both street-level and within the Lockport Locks. Or, take a 2-hour cruise on the historic Erie Canal (extra cost), passing through the two modern locks that now parallel the original “flight of five”. Afterward, visit the Erie Canal Discovery Center, a multi-media, interactive museum that interprets the early days of the Erie Canal. You can also stop into the adjacent First Presbyterian Church to see Lockport’s large collection of Tiffany stained glass windows. (Entry to the Discovery Center and Tiffany windows collection are included.)
